A timely Easter message.
The word “surrender” elicits different emotions in different people. For many, especially in the context of surrendering to God, it comes with fear and trepidation.
“What if God asks me to leave my job?”
“What if surrendering means I may never get married?”
There’s a lot of mistrust around the concept of living our lives sold out to God, in every area of our lives.
We doubt God’s heart for us, not certain that we’ll experience our best lives if He’s at the helm.
And that’s a lie.
The creator of the universe, who sent His son to pay the price for our sin and reunite us back to Him, loves us with an everlasting, unconditional and extravagant love.
We are not called to surrender to a Distant Being, one who is unfamiliar with our daily struggles, who stands at the end of the road, tapping his foot, waiting for us to “man up”, let go of our fears and work towards perfection.
We are called to surrender to a God of love, one whose perfect love for us casts out all fear. It’s as we grow in our awareness and experience of His lavish love for us, that surrender becomes an automatic byproduct. It’s as we spend time with Him, and prioritise Him in our lives, that we get to experience the love of the Father.
God’s appeal to surrender our lives to Him is one He makes to us, having given His all that we may be His, beloved. It is “in view of God’s mercy” that we are to present our bodies as living sacrifices to Him.
He wants to walk that journey of surrender with you. Each step. Speak to him. Share the struggles with him. Receive grace for each day. A step at a time. He’s right there in you. Walking with you towards a fully surrendered life.
““Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.””
